I first fell in love in the year 1997. I was 6 years old and up far past my bedtime. I felt it necessary, as all 6 year olds do when in this situation, to sneak out of bed and tell my parents that I couldn’t sleep. On my adventure down the hallway as a snake, I found my mother crying in the living room with the TV on. I was of course concerned. I asked her what was wrong and she said that she was just watching a movie that was making her tear up, so I turned around to see what she was watching. There, paused on the TV, I saw him. Leonardo DiCaprio. Frozen (literally) and beautiful to my young eyes.

We haven’t heard much of DiCaprio in the Romantic Movie world since then. Sure he’s played strapping young men in more action packed movies, but he’s finally come back around to grab the hearts of us Leo Lovers again in The Great Gatsby. The Titanic was set in the 1910′s. The Great Gatsby is like if Leo wouldn’t have sunk to the bottom of the ocean and made it to shore to experience the wonders of the 20′s. (But I think people also say similar things for Inception as well )

All of that being said, there is a trend emerging from all of this in the wedding world. Great Gatsby inspired weddings, that is! What bride doesn’t want to be the “it girl” at her big day? We thought we would search the web for inspiration to fill your big day with some swanky style and maybe a few flapper dresses! First, we should take a peek at Leo and Carey in character as Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan.

As I was flipping through the pictures of the movie, I ran across this fun image with dancing and streamers and colors galore! What a celebration! …and perfect inspiration for a reception

Alright… Now we must move past the Hollywood budget and land back into reality. Let’s look at some fun and simple ways to incorporate the 20′s style into your trendy wedding.

My favorite finds in this goose chase has been cake! These inspiring towers of sugar and flower will surely impress your guests. The gold embellishments and fanning accessories scream 20′s, doll.

I just love the hair from the 20′s. Short bobs with fancy hair pieces. I actually read that you can date wedding pictures from the 20′s based off of the head piece! How cool is that!? Maybe generations from now, wedding planners will be blogging (or whatever they’ll do then) about YOUR inspiring wedding and date it according to your headpiece; if your convincing enough, maybe they’ll think you were from the 20′s, too!

The next easiest way to add that 20′s “it” factor would be to doll up those details! I think these little things add just the right touch of vintage to a Gatsby inspired wedding.

I know I’ve already gotten married, but they do vow renewals right!? I WANT these dresses! Maybe my husband won’t notice if I added them to my collection? I digress, these dresses are are beautiful. If you do a 20′s inspired wedding you have to incorporate fur in some way. It is just so classic! That deep plunge neckline and the sparkling jewelry piece are so gorgeous.

You’re going to go crazy over these group shots… I’m serious. I gasped out loud when I ran across them. And as inspiring as Leo was, the black and white image made me want to post this blog post. It’s seriously breathtaking!

Sara and Jase were just the sweetest couple to work with. They are such a kind and caring pair, it was an honor to get to spend their wedding planning days with them. They were married on November 12, 2011 at Legacy Farms Event Center.

Sara’s vision for the ceremony was just breathtaking. The stain glass windows and honeysuckle vine looked so perfectly in season that we have used her model of ceremony set up to help influence other brides into taking this gorgeous route. She and her dad shared a very fun and entertaining daddy/daughter dance and the little groomsmen were just too cute! I also LOVE the brightly colored flowers she chose, they are just so pretty to look at! They make you happy, that’s how weddings are supposed to make you feel, right!?

We have such a beautiful couple sharing their vows at our downtown Nashville location, Events@1418. After speaking with this sweet couple just once, I felt like their special day was going to be one to remember! Their laid back attitudes and modern mentality will surely make for a classy and unique urban wedding.

I bring up Chris and Bernadette in today’s post because just recently Bernadette shared with us an article that she was featured in on the Huffington Posts Weddings website! The article talked about the headband trend that is happening now in weddings and they selected some beautiful bridal portraits that Bernadette took  in our very own town.

A wedding trend I have recently come obsessed with is glitter. For any parent with a daughter who did dance, color guard, cheer leading or just played with make up in a mirror the thought of glitter makes them want to run for the hills. I’m not talking about loose powdery glitter. I’m talking about things that sparkle. Like the beautiful table cloth in the above image, there are a lot of fun and not messy ways to make your big day sparkle and shine like you.

I’ll show you some great images of sparkling accessories and ways that you can bring in that glitter without making your guests go blind. If you want to be the focal point of the sparkle, why don’t you let your dress shine bright like a diamond

If the bride is sparkly, the little flower girls is going to want to be glittered up too! Check out these adorable littles in their sparkly gowns.

If you REALLY want to add some sparkle to your whole evening, see if your caterer will jazz up your treats with some edible glitter.

If you want sparkling memories to last you a lifetime you could add it to your list of pictures! Hire a photobooth company or see if your photographer has the equipment to add one to your package. Setting one up can be simple and provides a lot of creative fun for your guests

Whether you want your whole night to sparkle, or just your shoes, glitter can be a fun and eye catching accessory to any girly-girls wedding. For the brides who live like Kesha and say “When you’re around me, you’re going to get glitter on you;” I say go all out and embrace your glitter obsession! Let your sparkling personality shine through, this is your big day after all!!

I’m talking about a guacamole bar, my friends. Fresh, fun guacamole. I loaded up my guac bowl with sunflower seeds, bacon, cilantro and red onion, goat cheese, and some green and red peppers. Basically everything they had to offer If you are having a Fajita Action Station or a Mexican flavored buffet menu, why not add this fun and interactive bar at the end of the line for your guests to load up on! OR you could stage it with some salsa and chips during cocktail hour for your guests to mingle around. It’s just so colorful and tastey, who wouldn’t love to dip a tortilla chip in some of that goodness!?

I can’t believe that it is actually May 1st! Everyone has told me for years that time flies, I didn’t know it would go this fast. Another thing that I have noticed that changes fast is Tennessee weather. Who can keep up with this craziness? It’s hot and cold and rainy and snowy all in the same week. Now that we have reached this monumental day, May 1st, it can only get warmer from here

Wedding Planning can be so fun for a lot of reasons. It’s a creative, personal, and unique experience for everybody involved in the process. When you are bogged down with centerpiece details, why don’t you take a well deserved break and try some new cocktails. Cocktail hour is a wonderful time to display your personalities in a drink. Not only can you select something you love, but you can name it anything you want too! For example, if I had a Raspberry Cocktail at my event I may name it the “Raspberry Rachel.” How fun is that? A member of the waitstaff team walking up to your guests asking “Would you like to try a Raspberry Rachel?” I’d love to see my guests reactions, they would probably say that it would be typical for me to name something like that after myself. What would be MORE appropriate would be something I just found call the “The Chatty Kathy” I’m pretty sure no one I know would argue that it is anything less than perfect for me.

So, combining these two fun topics, warm weather and weddings, I thought it would be fun to compile a list of drinks that I felt were appropriate for these sorts of warm weather days. There is nothing I love more in this kind of weather than a nice, refreshing, and light warm weather cocktail. It’s the perfect season to pull out the mixers, shake up something on the rocks, throw a lemon on your drink and top them with a teeny cherry stuck umbrella. Most people call these “girly drinks,” I call these awesome drinks.

Sparkling Raspberry Lemonade
SO classic. Any sweet southern girl goes bananas when we offer them a lemonade option for cocktail hour.
Pour it in a mini mason and you can be sure that she will add a somersault to that reaction.
What will make your guests somersault would be a spiked version of this sour summer specialty!

Strawberry Watermelon Red Wine Sangria
Maybe it’s not a cocktail per say, but it is a yummy alternative to a liquor based drink!
These two summer fruits are such a tasty combination if you are looking for classy with a twist.

Mint, Cucumber and Vodka Cocktail
This refreshing cocktail is such a pretty presentation.
These light colors are perfect for those vintage blushing brides wanting something light for their guests.
Take a sip of this and enjoy all these wonderful flavors mix together for this fresh combination.

Cranberry Kiss
This deep colored Rum drink will take you to the beach as soon as your lips kiss the rim of the glass.
The sprite in this mix gives the cranberry juice a bubbly and tangy twist .
